Law Practice

Peter Spencer is a founding partner of Gourlay Spencer Wade.  He has a well-earned reputation as being skilled and experienced counsel in the areas of civil and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. 

During his 35 years practising in British Columbia, Mr. Spencer has regularly represented clients in all levels of trial and appellate courts including the Supreme Court of B. C. and the B. C. Court of Appeal, and on occasion, the Supreme Court of Canada.  He has also appeared in the Federal Courts and before several administrative tribunals.

Professional Activities

Peter Spencer is an active member of the Vancouver legal community, regularly attending several sections of the Canadian Bar Association including the insolvency section and the civil litigation section. He has written position papers of proposed legislation for submission to the government and has  appeared as a presenter and as a guest instructor in numerous courses put on by the Continuing Legal Education Society, the Trial Lawyers Association, and various sections of the Canadian Bar Association (B. C. Branch) on topics ranging from trial advocacy to insolvency issues.

Peter has been active in both the local community and at the high school level coaching basketball and baseball. For several years following his retirement from active competition, he coached track and field at the club level, working with several nationally and internationally ranked athletes. He attended two Canadian Olympic team training camps as a guest coach.

Peter's recreational time is consumed on a small ranch he owns near the Nicola Valley in the BC interior.

• Long-standing board member and past Chair of Central City Foundation, a charity focused on addressing the needs of people living in the downtown eastside of Vancouver; 
• a key player in bringing about the first long-term residential treatment facility for drug addicted youth in B. C.

• Former club coach in track and field and in several community youth sports groups.
