Law Practice
Eleana Swift practices primarily in the areas of civil and administrative litigation. She advises clients in matters relating to professional regulation and discipline, professional negligence, defamation, and estate litigation, including adult guardianship. She also handles a variety of corporate-commercial matters.
Prior to joining Gourlay Spencer Wade in 2010, Eleana practiced criminal defence law, successfully defending clients in criminal and quasi-criminal matters including regulatory and professional disciplinary proceedings. She also gained expertise in the law of search and seizure, including regulatory search warrants.
Eleana has conducted trial and appellate work at the BC Provincial Court, the BC Supreme Court, and the BC Court of Appeal. She has also successfully represented clients before administrative tribunals and in mediations.
Professional and Community Activities
Eleana has been actively involved in the legal community as a volunteer with a variety of legal advocacy groups, such as the BC Civil Liberties Association. She was a founding member of the UBC Law School’s Innocence Project.
Personal Background
Eleana graduated from McGill University in 2003 with a bachelors of arts degree. She graduated from the faculty of law at UBC in 2007, and was admitted to the bar of British Columbia in 2008. Eleana joined Gourlay Spencer Wade as an associate in 2010.
